1000 Players Simulate Civilization: Rich & Poor
A 2-hour-34-minute documentary-style Minecraft social experiment by YouTuber Ish (Alex Kisiel). From over 8,000 applicants, roughly 1,000-1,300 players were accepted and assigned to one of two islands without knowing their traits:
- Island 2 ("Rich Island"): Prosperous archipelago with blossoming trees, no hostile mobs, abundant resources. 500 players.
- Island 1 ("Poor Island"): Barren wasteland with one shared tree, a volcano boiling surrounding waters, barely habitable terrain. 500 players.
Players logged on simultaneously each day for 2-3 hour sessions over seven real-life days. Rules included: no random killing (RDM), most enchantments disabled, no ender pearls, no Nether.
The video captures unscripted, emergent storytelling: organic formation of civilizations, governments, alliances, betrayals. Key emergent characters included Saparata, Fluixon, Schpood, Cynikka, Lingulini, 3BelowZero, and Sidefall (who ran an in-game newspaper spreading propaganda and sensational stories). Lingulini formed an Italian-themed merchant mafia.
Widely praised as "peak cinema" and arguably a better Minecraft movie than the official 2025 Minecraft film. Holds 80%+ ratings on review platforms.
