BookOrbit is an open-source (AGPL-3.0), self-hosted "reading space" for ebooks, audiobooks, comics, and PDFs. The landing page reduces the pitch to three promises: your files stay on your own hardware, every device stays in sync, and there's no subscription.

Deployment is a single Docker Compose file with local storage. The feature list covers the full lifecycle of a personal library: built-in readers for all four formats, multi-user support with OIDC/SSO and per-user libraries, metadata management (nine providers, bulk editing, field-level rules), a "Book Dock" staging area for uploading and reviewing metadata before finalizing, two-way progress sync with Kobo and KOReader, a private OPDS catalog feed for other readers, and reading analytics.

It sits in the self-hosted-media tradition — a self-hosted alternative to cloud reading services — and interoperates with the open ebook ecosystem (Kobo, KOReader, OPDS) rather than trying to replace it.
