Standard Webhooks

Standard Webhooks is an open-source initiative to bring consistency, security, and reliability to webhook delivery. It provides a specification, reference libraries, and tooling so that webhook providers don't have to reinvent the wheel — and consumers don't have to write a different integration for every service.

The project identifies three core problems with the status quo: every provider implements webhooks differently and with varying quality; consumers must build bespoke handlers for each provider they integrate with; and the resulting fragmentation prevents shared tooling from emerging. The pitch is that standardization unlocks an ecosystem — tools for senders, tools for consumers, and "innovation on top."

Security is treated as a first-class concern: SSRF protection, signature-based spoofing prevention, and replay attack defense are baked into the spec rather than left as exercises for each implementer. Reliability and interoperability round out the value proposition. The initiative is governed by a Technical Steering Committee drawn from the community.

Alongside the specification, the project ships reference libraries in multiple languages, webhook testing and debugging tools, documentation, and brand assets for indicating compatibility.
